About Hubcity Mart

Our Story

Hubcity Mart was created to solve real campus needs. We built a single, unified platform where USM and William Carey students can easily post listings, sell items, request rideshares, and handle other campus activities - all in one place.

Our main goals were to create a convenient platform, make searching easier, ensure safety, and reduce scams in student transactions. We remembered the specific chaos of campus life – trying to find a cheap futon, sell back textbooks without getting ripped off, or snag a ride home or to get some groceries – and knew there had to be a simpler way.

We were inspired by the University of Chicago's Maroon Marketplace, created by Euirim Choi.

Who We Are

Hubcity Mart was created by Paribartan Dhakal and Shiron Manandhar. We are USM graduates (Class of 2020) now working as software engineers.

What Makes Us Different

Unlike generic marketplace apps that cater to everyone, Hubcity Mart is specifically designed for students and faculty at USM and William Carey. We keep things straightforward:

University-Verified Users: Only users with university .edu email addresses can register, reducing the risk of scams and creating a safer environment.
Local Focus: Everything is centered around Hattiesburg, making it easier to find what you need nearby.
Simple Interface: List items for sale, offer services, find rideshares, or post housing requests with just a few taps.
Direct Communication: Connect easily with other users through our in-app messaging system.
No Hidden Fees: We don't process payments or take a cut - you deal directly with other users.

Our Vision

We envision Hubcity Mart as the go-to platform for everyday campus needs – whether you're hunting for textbooks that don't cost a fortune, searching for a non-sketchy apartment listing, trying to sell your mini-fridge, or even finding someone trustworthy to sit your cats over break (we've all been there!).

We're still improving, and your feedback helps. Eventually, we plan to grow through referrals so trusted members of the Hattiesburg community can join too.
